    Hello,

I have a 10 week old puppy and I am really struggling with toilet training! I think she has started telling me if she needs to poo, which is fab, but she wees with no hesitation and with no tell that it's about to happen (genuinely - there is no tell!)

She sleeps through the night 11-7.30 which is amazing and I take her straight out after a good play session, waking up and eating. However, once she's awake, even if she's relaxed, I'm having to set alarms for every 20 minutes to take her out to the loo.

Just wondering if anyone found something that really works for them / has any helpful advice? If she starts to go inside I pick her straight up and we go to the lawn and when she wees outside I praise her like mad, so just finding it a bit frustrating that she's still going inside with absolutely no hesitation :(

Hi Harriet! Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your puppy!

    I've got few suggestions:

    1. Actually not so much a suggestion as a question - what are you doing to clean up her previous accidents? Dogs love to pee where they've peed before, and their sense of smell for even a trace of left behind pee is phenomenal. Clean up accidents very thoroughly with an enzyme spray designed for that purpose, or some laundry detergent in warm water. You'll have a job breaking the cycle otherwise.

    2. Puppies generally don't like to pee while they're being held, so if she can't manage 20 minutes until her next pee break, let her play on the floor for 10 minutes, then carry her in a puppy sling or sit with her in your lap for 10 minutes. Once she's used to that, she can spend 20 minutes on the floor, followed by 10 minutes being cuddled etc.

    3. Dogs quite like praise, but they like food even more, so you could try increasing the value of the reward for peeing outside to something edible.

I hope they're of some help - let us know how you get on!
