Hi, I'm considering getting a puppy with the option of having a litter later on. I don't plan on being a breeder other than maybe 1-2 litters.

My question is the Mothers hip score is 8/7 with the Subluxation 4/4 as that seems to be the reason its overall higher. Father is 5/4 both with 0/0 Elbow.

The breeder has also provided us the Grandmother & Grandfather papers which are 0/0 1/1 for hips. The breeder says the Mother has hips at 15 as she didn't raise her and she must of been overexercised or something. The mother has a beautiful temperament and appears healthy.

The more I learn about hips and scores the more I've decided I wouldn't breed the pup with a hip score higher than the average as I will only do this responsible.

Would you consider the pup in light of this or is the breeding stretching the truth?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Dave,

It is thought that certain types of exercise can worsen potentially bad hips at a young age, but we don't know how much influence the environment has and the potential for bad hips was probably there in the first place.

I'd never purchase a puppy with a parent that had hips worse than the breed average, I'm afraid. For me personally, I'd let this one pass and look for a different puppy :(

Best of luck in your search!
