I’m trying to find help here. I have a 2.5 year old golden lab and he has trouble with his bladder (I think). He’s very healthy, eats twice a day, exercises regularly, very fit, etc. however, he urinates at least 12 times per day and has trouble holding it overnight so I will regularly wake up to pee stains on the carpet. He’s very well potty trained, has been since only a week or two after he came home with me. He drinks around 60 oz. of water per day. Half a bowl with breakfast and dinner and a little bit throughout the day and before bed to keep his mouth wet. I’ve experimented with less water and even got to the point where he was barely drinking any at all but it never made a difference. He’s been to the doctor for this issue twice and both times they said he’s completely normal and there’s nothing wrong with him (urine tests and bladder checks) but something is definitely up. Has anyone else experienced this? How can I help him to manage it?
When you say he wees 12 times a day do you mean he asks to go outside 12 times in addition to his daily walks. Male dogs especially mark when they are out walking. Toby probably cocks his leg 20 times on his first walk although not a lot comes out for the last 10! Probably half that late afternoon evening. Make sure he has a late walk which is easy in the UK at the moment with the weather and let him out straight before bed. You will need to thoroughly clean and deodorise the carpet to remove any trace of urine to stop the temptation to wee there again. If he is leaking urine during the night lying down and you know he has emptied his bladder before bed seek the opinion of a different vet.
