    Hello all

    Sorry, us again.............

Does anyone have any suggestions on toilet training for our 10 week old puppy Henry? He goes to the toilet in the garden during our frequent trips outside, however, he goes to the toilet indoors a lot too, which I know is normal, but he makes no noises/indication that he needs the toilet during the day but whines when he needs to go in the night. We use a product specifically designed to remove any smell from the carpet etc. after he goes indoors as I have read that the smells can encourage them to go indoors, just as smells in the garden have the same affect. Does anyone recommend any other product we could use or know of anything we could try that may encourage him to show us a sign he wishes to go outside? We have seen bells that can go on doors/gates etc. do these work?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    many thanks

We found best was to set a timer. Starting at every 20 minutes during the day

Have. A look in the pinned post that says ‘puppy care and articles’ Pippa Mattinson has written some very clear articles about house training.

We set a timer too, not all pups will do anything significant to indicate they need to go at this age. Ours eventually clocked that going towards the back door means ‘I gotta go’ so we’d take him out whenever he went up that end of the room and soon enough he got closer to the door as he understood the association. But yep, you’ll be going outside very frequently until that’s the case. Pippa’s guides as linked above are a really helpful starting point to give yourself a full overview of what to expect.

Hoping it’s summer where you are, we had to do this mid winter in the lashing rain
