Hi, my lab has suffered from hot spots on his neck and checks for years. Its so bad now is smells! I have tried everything to get rid of it, but nothing seems to work. The vet has told me to try Hibi scrub. Has anyone used this? or any other advise? Thank you.
Toby had one after his ear op healed.(not on the operation site but near) He was given a steroid cream which cleared it up quickly. I am guessing you have already tried that.
Also look at his food. I’m sure a lot of people on here will say to try raw feeding to illuminate food sensitivities. Have you consulted a dermatologist?
Thanks for all your feed backs, I have tried steroid cream, it helps but comes back. Not tried a raw diet, but I have changed his food recently because of other health problems. A hypoallergelic food, so hoping that helps.
Let me know how you get on. Toby was very itchy from when we first had him. He stopped completely when he was on his cancer meds. I thought it was the Piriton helping but now he has come off steroids I realise it was those stopping him scratching. The oncologist doesn’t want him on them long term. I have just changed his food to a hydrolysed food to sort out his stomach issues which has worked a treat but not helped with skin sensitivities. I am reluctant to change his food again but plan to try raw in the future. I have agreed with the vet to see how his next scans go then book in to see a dermatologist as she said there are meds other than steroids that could help.
I have shaved him many times, but think when the fur Starts to grow back he scratched more! Bet said not to shave him just awash with scrub twice daily. So I'm trying that for a week see how he goes.
Are you still experiencing the hot spots? have you found a solution? I just noticed a big one forming under Yogi's ear (i take him to a park with a river every day). I have (from my last Lab) buro-sol, quercetin, witch hazel, apis (homeopathic), even trying colloidal silver which is pretty woo-woo but so many in the raw community swear by it (i don't know what to think) and just trying to dry it. He's only 17 months and very squeamish
I have done some research in the last few hours and found . Dr. Becker with Mercola gives different advice, trim the area, delineate, diluted betadine to clean the spot and colloidal silver, aloe, manuka honey or chamomile tea bag to soothe. He won't let me trim but I have rinsed with diluted betadine and soothed with colloidal silver. Fingers crossed!
