Hi guys! My pup Monty is 13 weeks and going through bully sticks in probably less than 10 minutes which is terrifying and expensive! Does anybody have any recommendations for safe chews for pups that are nice and long lasting but not dangerous for their teeth? We have a couple Kongs and we've tried absolutely everything but he's just not too into them, he's a treat boy through and through! Any advice welcome!
Hello. Welcome to Monty! We didn't use too many treats at that age and instead bought some face clothes and rope toys, soaked them in water and then froze them. Luna loved chewing on them and once she was finished quick rinse and back in freezer. If you are looking for food chews you can freeze carrots and this is a nice health treat as well as helping the chewing and bank balance. There is also yak chews and antlers you can get for him.
We second antlers, but start with a split one when they have their baby teeth still. There are warnings about these hard chews but we’ve not experienced a problem personally. Antlers are expensive but worth the buy in our opinion as they last. Yak chews never lasted long enough to be worth roughly the same cost as an antler in our experience. Dried pies or cows ears are a win in our house but gone within minutes now.
Antlers are well worth the money and buy slightly bigger than you think so will last as he grows. I agree about the Yak chews but these are only as a special treat and will usually last about 3 weeks. Oh she loves cow ears and when she was younger they did last longer (up to a week) but now they would be gone in an hour!
