Hi, I have a very thin and active, 10 month old american lab pup. Before COVID and not working at home I would give her 3 cups of dry food a day and sometimes a marrow bone. She is now 10 months old and working from home I find myself feeding her more. 1 give her a cup at 5am, a cup after a 5 mile walk around 8am, a cup at noon, a cup at 2:30pm and a cup at 6:30pm . I feel I am over feeding her but she gets very restless a whines if I do not feed her on time. She is still very thin but poops 5 times a day. Am I over feeding her or do some lab puppies require more food. Thanks
Hello, when you say very thin, to help you judge this, you could google BODY CONDITION SCORE for dogs, there are some helpful charts to describe your dog, it’s not all about weight. I asked my vet to score my young lab at our annual health check last week, to see if I had the right score. Also a measurement in cups will vary across dog foods. What does the packet guideline say ? Perhaps 5 miles is still a little too far for a young dog ? Hope that’s of some help?
Maybe look at the quality of food you are feeding her. It could be full of fillers, 5 poops a day is a lot so it could be just full of fibre and not great nutrition.
