    Hi All,

My boy has issues with his stomach and digestion and as a result I have to give him hypoallergenic food as it seems to be the only thing that he can tolerate.

As a result, I'm often worried about whether hes getting all the vitamins and minerals he should. Our vet has already advised we take b12 tablets as his levels for that were quite low but it got me thinking if there was more I could be doing and the idea of a dog multivitamin was suggested to me.

I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with dog multivitamins and if they would recommend them or is it all just a waste of money?

Most dogs receive a complete and balanced diet – including necessary vitamins and minerals from commercially processed dog food, according to the FDA. Dogs fed a homemade diet may need supplements - discover more on Canada drugs direct.

If your dog is fed a commercial complete food, it will have all nutrients added like that, back to the food.

However, nutrients are more bioavailable when consumed in their natural forms and not in processed dry matter - so if you do want to improve his diet, moving to a more natural or raw diet would be the best place to start. You may need to do this carefully if he has food intolerances but often dogs tolerate raw meat better than cooked - because cooking denatures the fats - and you can experiment with an elimination diet to determine which proteins he's allergic to - and then avoid those.
