Hi, I have a 12 week old male chocolate lab and my daughter has a 17 week old female chocolate lab. We often spend weekends together at our cabin and get the puppies together at our houses. We supervise their play, but they never seem to tire, which can be exhausting for the adults. I’m looking for some insight on puppies of these ages playing together. How long should we let them go? We do end of separating them from time to time because they will just keep going and going. Thanks for any experience anyone has had with this.

Hi Henry, welcome to the forum :)

I'm afraid I don't have any personal experience of this, but I wanted to give your post a little bump so that hopefully someone who does have experience sees it!

Just let them go. Sam and his sister would go at it for 4+ hours non stop. We got them together yesterday and because Sam is now 30+ lbs heavier his little sister couldn’t keep up and let us know when she “had enough”. If the pups are happy just let them have at it. [IMG]

Dogs at places like Doggy Daycare will just play and play until they are exhausted and then sleep. However in a house or garden dogs playing out of control have no spatial awareness and can easily take your legs out or seriously hurt a young child. I think you should teach them some boundaries so they stop when you want them too/are eating a meal etc. This may involve you separating them, putting them on a lead, calming them down, giving something to chew etc. It might also be worth going out for a walk when you first meet up so they can burn off some energy sniffing around as well as playing together.

Luna is now 13 months and we sometimes look after her mum who is 3. They both run around play and Luna doesn't leave her alone until they eventually crash out. We had her mum yesterday and Luna was with the dog walker, I had to wake her at 8.30 for breakfast this morning, quick toilet break and she is still sound asleep now!
When she used to play with her brother when they were younger we just let them play and she would come lie under our legs when she had enough and wanted to rest.

Thanks for your input! It’s a lot of lab playing together for sure!! Henry and Leni eventually do get tired - or we would just separate and calm them by having them do some training. It is a great way to exhaust that puppy energy for sure!

Hi I have a 8 week old lab mix and a 17week maltipoo my lab gets to excited and bites her a little to hard and wants to go at her to bite her tail or leg when they aren't actively playing does anyone know how I can get my lab to calmly aproach my maltipoo. Thank you! Also if anyone has ideas on what my lab is mixed with that will help thanks again.
