I am having nightmares with my 4 yr old choc lab with ear infections. Allergy meds, steroid anti biotic creams, hypo scrip dog food.....still no cure....someone please help. I feel so bad that i can't fix him.
We have suffered for 12 years!! Is it a yeast infection or bacterial? Miconazale and Clotrimazole are the active ingredient in products prescribed by vets to treat yeast infections. These are available without prescription for human use. You could ask the vet if it is ok to use them, or maybe the vet has prescribed them in the past? Have you tried hair removal from the ears to allow the ears more chance to dry out? Seems wrong as the hair normally protects but clearly that is not happening.
Thornit. If you live in the UK, look up Thornit on Amazon and try that. It's a well known ear problem fixer amongst doggie folks - just read the reviews. I've had clients whose dogs were on the verge of needing GA and ear flushing use Thornit and avoid it all! And I use it on my own dogs as soon as I see the start of a problem, it's worked every time. If you're in the US, I'm not sure it's available there....
