Our 3mo old puppy got sick last Sunday. He started vomiting, was very lethargic, would not eat.

The results last Sunday showed positive for Giardia, negative for parvo so the vet prescribed medication but he wouldn't eat at home so we took him back to the clinic.

The vet had him on IV overnight and we took him home the next day since he seemed a bit better but he wouldn't eat or drink the whole day. Pooped (wet) once and vomited a little saliva twice, so we took him back to the vet. He's been there for 2 nights already.

Today (his 3rd day since symptoms started) he is still being hand fed at the clinic and had formed stool this morning, though w/ blood. He was retested and found negative for parvo, giardia, distemper, corona. Stool tests are also normal.

Vet said he needs to stay in the clinic to be managed and continue his medication.

What could be causing this and how can he recover?

    Moz,
    Sorry your pup is ill.
I know how frustrating it is not knowing what the diagnosis is.
We have gone through it for a couple weeks. Our Vet said what Digs has is idiopathic, meaning there could be several causes, but cannot say for certain what is causing his symptoms.
We took hom in because his breathing
was fast and shallow, and he had no appetite, they ran bloodwork and took xrays of his chest and abdomen, no redflags. A few days later he was squinting with his right eye and the lower lid was drooping. He would not take any treats, would not eat, chicken, or hambuger he would turn away from anything we tried.
Back to the vet, they said it was uveitis, or Horners syndrome. He was put on antibiotics, prednisone, and eye drops, and an appetite stimulator. He still refused any food so I began syringe feeding him..finally this.week he began taking chicken nuggets, he's now back to eating dog food.
Digger has muscle atophy in his right jaw muscles face and head, the vet think it will get better.
Digger is more himself each day, he just looks lopsided. Sorry for being so long winded!

I hope your Vet figures it out, and helps towards recovery.

    Best wishes..Hang in there !

Thanks for sharing. We will bring Bugsy to a pet hospital later for more tests and a second opinion.
The vet days he hasn't improved but hasn't worsened either.
    Hoping he recovers soon.
