    Hi,

Wondering if anyone could suggest how to stop my 2yo lab whinging when I have stopped for a short rest on a long walk? This is his 2nd walk of the day and a good hour into the walk. He will continue to whinge until we carry on which is usually after less than a few minutes. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Bruce does exactly the same, I just ignore him and he stops after 10 mins when he understands it's not working and he's also two.

Hi there, if you want to teach your dog to sit quietly while you relax for a while, you'll need to start with very short stops to begin with and do lots of them. Take your dog's breakfast with you and give him a lot of mini picnics. Try to fit twenty little stops into your next walk and each time get your dog to sit while you feed a stream of five or ten tiny pieces of food to him. He can't eat and whine at the same time. :) Then release him, walk on, and repeat. After a couple of days start to introduce some little gaps between the treats. Just a couple of seconds to begin with. Over time you'll be able to stretch out the gaps while your dog remains sitting quietly next to you.
