is our 9 week old black Labrador retriever puppy. He has lived with us for just over a week, and is now definitely making his mark on our lives, and our hands! We already love him to pieces but we are now finding that his play always includes jumping and biting, and whatever we do to try and prevent this just seems to make it worse. Anyway, hello to all, and I'm looking forward to reading and getting advice on all things Labrador related.
Re: Kai ... Hi Jane and welcome to you and Kai. We have a 10 week old chocolate lab called Charlie. We had some biting in the first week too but Pippa has written a great article on this. I don't know how to link it in but someone else will probably be able to do it for you!
Re: Kai ... Hi Jane. Welcome to the world of labs I resorted to wearing long sleeves at work for a few weeks due to the scratches and bites I got when playing with Harley (now 16 weeks old). When she got too rough or bit too hard I would say no, stand up , turn my back on her and ignored her for a few seconds. This was suggested to me on here and it worked fantastically. Harley learnt very quickly that if she was too rough, I wouldn't play with her. Good luck and I hope Kai settles in well Ternaya and Harley

We have begun to let Kai know that games end quickly if he gets too rough. I have to try and not let his little disappointed face tug too hard at my heart strings
Re: Kai ... Hi there...and welcome! Be firm, it's worth it in the end. If you don't get a handle on it now, you'll end up with what we had - a year old BIG lab whose jumps end up at face level and whose bites definitely hurt!! Our boy was a rescue and he learned pretty quickly that jumping and nipping in play was not allowed, but it was a bit frightening and painful to start with. Lisa and Simba (15 month old chocX)
Re: Kai ... Welcome from me Helen, Hattie 6 years and Charlie nearly 3 years. Have a lovely time on this great forum.
Re: Kai ... Hi Jane, welcome to you and Kai. Have a look at the puppy resources post near the top of the puppies board on this forum, for links to articles on biting. The jumping up article includes a great video from the Kikopup website. Pippa
Re: Kai ... Hi All Just wanted to say thank you everyone, for your warm welcomes. Kai is settling in really well, and everyday we see a little bit more progress in our training. He still wants to bite but will respond to NO and does make an attempt at being gentle....sometimes the important thing is that he has brought a quiet house alive, and is a joy to have around Jane
