Ok, short history of Molly, that we adopted. She was surrendered along with her 7 week old puppies to a high kill shelter and was pulled by the rescue we adopted her from. The day we picked them (I was fostering until they could be adopted), I separated them, she didn't seem to want anything to do with them and everything I could find said by then they really shouldn't be nursing. My previous females were spayed, this is all new to me. I don't know how many litters she's had, she turned 2 in May, or if there's a way to tell. She is drying up nicely from what I can see, again, no experience. It's been two weeks and her spay is scheduled for Oct sometime when there is an opening after 8 weeks from weaning. Can anyone tell me will she tuck up for the most part? She has some red between the back mammary that I've been wiping daily, to me it just seems moist and irritated because the skin rubs together. I didn't want to put anything on it that would contribute to moisture. Is this normal until she dries up? Second, she is out of coat from the neck down, I'm going to guess from whelping. My concern, is it's Sept, will she have enough coat in by the time it starts getting cold, southwest PA? How long does it take for a post whelp coat to grow in? I did try to track down her breeder with no luck. Thank you.
