We are looking to add a lab to our family for our 6 year old son. We are first time dog owners, so temperament and health are of at most importance. Also, looking for English labs as I have heard they are better on the temperament side than American Labs. Need some recommendations on breeders in Northern California - bay area, with excellent reputation. We are also open to working with breeders outside our area if they have a stellar reputation.

I would not worry about the temperament of American style Labs compared to English. They do tend to be taller and more energetic, but most Labs have a pretty calm temperament. Google Labrador Kennels, Breeders or Pups in your area. You should find some, and then you have homework to do. I hope you are not in a fire zone or in heavy smoke right now.
