He's never been the brightest spark(!) but has taken to coming to a halt whenever he wants his walk to end. Which is fine, but unfortunately stopping in the middle of the road seems to be his favourite! He's constantly at his dog bowl (nothing new about that I hear you cry!) but I think he's forgetting he's just eaten. (edited to remove link)
Hi Mel, Welcome to the forum I'm sorry to hear your old boy is starting to struggle. I can't recall the exact figures, but I understand something like one third of dogs who reach 12 years old start to experience signs of canine cognitive dysfunction (dementia), rising to about three quarters of 14 year old dogs. Have you asked your vet for advice? Advances in medical care and nutrition mean our dogs are living longer than ever, which means vets are also getting more used to managing the symptoms of canine dementia, so that's it's as non-distressing as possible. Good luck and best wishes.
