Hey all, Looking for input. Just had an accidental breeding. Before anyone says anything, all genetic testing has been done. I just chose not to breed this cycle due to the pandemic and not wanting people in my house looking at puppies. Anyways my female is id guess in the end stage of heat. She stopped spotting about a week ago. She and my male tied today. What’s the chance she’s pregnant? like I said, I was planning to skip this cycle so no progesterone levels. What’s the chances she would allow them to tie if she wasn’t still fertile? thanks in advance for any input from all you experienced breeders!
What day of her cycle was she? Bitches would not usually stand if not fertile. Your vet can give her an injection (Alizin) to 'prevent' the pregnancy.
Thanks for the reply! Sadly, I didn’t do a good job at tracking her cycle since we had no intent of breeding. Rough estimate was 14-18 days into cycle. Breeding took place Tuesday morning and by last night he’s already showing no interest again. He’s 100% back to his normal laid back self. Unfortunately we’re in the U.S. —no approved drugs to terminate. Luckily I have a list of people wanting pups. I was just holding off because of COVID19. Think she still had viable eggs floating around in there? Guess we’ll either relaxin test in a couple weeks or ultrasound in a month ♀️
I am in the UK too. Alizin is commonly used here. Yes, very possible. One of my bitches ovulated at day 15 for 2 litters and another at day 16. Winter puppies are hard work as you won't be able to let them outside to play much.
