I have a Chocolate Lab puppy, 5 months old. He has a crazy thirst all the time. He's gotten into the toilet before and drank for 5-10 minutes, when we found him he was round (think the little girl in Willy Wonka). We took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with Diabetes insipidus and prescribed desmopressin and it was supposed to fix the thirst issue, but it does not. The Vet still believes it is diabetes but the meds don't help and there is no definitive test (according to the vet). The alternative that the vet provided was that it might psychogenic and he may grow out of it.
Wondering if anyone else has experienced this is Chocolate Labs?

Hi Ryan, welcome to the forum :)

There are other causes of excessive thirst in dogs, but I can't really speculate about whether any of them might apply to your dog over the internet.

You could ask another vet for a second opinion, or ask your current vet to refer you to a specialist vet for further examination.

Good luck, I hope you get some answers!

Obviously if there is a medical reason then you need to follow your vet's advice, but I used to have a spaniel who would go nuts for water and make himself sick. I moved him from a dry food to a wet food (raw) ad he barely touched water after that.
