Help - I have just adopted a 6 month old GSD which was relinquished for biting his owner. Initially appeared very friendly although lacking in manners. First time he attacked me was when I tried to walk along a fairly busy road. I put it down to fear of the traffic. The second attack occurred when I was putting on his lead. He jumped up knocking my glasses off and bit my hand and arm repeatedly. I have access to a field and have been taking him for off lead exercise there about 10 minutes 8 times a day. I do not think he has been used to walks so I am trying to build his exercise gradually. I am trying to train sit, wait for food and wait at door until invited through. I don’t think he has had any training or socialisation. I would normally have enrolled in a training class but with COVID they are closed. Is this aggression curable? Any advise would be welcome

I would urgently contact a behaviourist who is familiar with the breed.

Hi, because you don’t know his full history other than he has previously bitten, I agree with @5labs you really need to consult a behaviourist who knows the breed. GSDs are awesome, intelligent and dogs with the right training they are fabulous pets. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
