I have a now 13Week old puppy, I got her at eight weeks and her have always been sloppy and frequent, we had kept her on what the breeder had raised her on alpha sporting puppy and had her to the vets, all her medicine is now complete and her stools are just starting to get better and less frequent after a bland diet of chicken and rice.

Could anyone recommend a puppy food, when researching on line every site seem to have a hidden agenda to what food is the best, I am looking for an impartial recommendation.

    thanks in advance people.

We have fed our boy on Harrington’s Puppy since he came home at 8 weeks.

    Things we love:

    + He loves the taste
+ He has good firm and consistent bowel movements (edit: three times a day at 7am, 1pm and 7pm like clockwork!)
+ He has a gorgeous shiny coat that is complimented almost everywhere we take him
+ He is a good healthy weight (we feed 640g a day +\- and according to the instructions on the back of the pack).

    Things we don’t love:
+ He can clear a room with a toot

I also feed him 1 eighth teaspoon of coconut oil a day to keep his coat in good condition - the vet is ambivalent about this bit!

He is now 21 weeks old and I’m slowly transitioning him to Harrington’s Salmon and Sweet Potato - this can be fed from 8 weeks. There is no real reason to do this other than he LOVES salmon and he is a bit pampered!

    Purina Pro Plan
Puppy formula if you want, I would just feed adult in the proper quantity. Don't over feed with any diet.
A good friend worked for Purina for many years at a very high level. Purina does extensive research making sure there are no competitors with better products at any price point.

I think there are a lot of good brands out there, but I wanted to do a large breed puppy food and I wanted to ensure that it was well rated, but also that I would easily be able to get it, no matter what. I think the pandemic has highlighted this. Stores were closing in our area and while pet stores did not close, a lot of pet foods ran out. So I wanted a brand that I could get in several places. We chose Purina for that reason, because we can get it at all our pet stores, but can also order from Amazon and it was listed as a top rated food on several sites. We transitioned her slowly from her food that was given to us and it's been fine. Healthy pup, beautiful coat, eats like a champ. I guess the long term results remain to be seen. She's not our only dog, but our other isn't a large dog and we have transitioned from several different senior dog foods to find one that was okay for her sensitive stomach, so she is not on Purina.

We give our puppy nomnomnow (rotating between all 4 recipes). We also give sundaysfordogs
as training treats (even though it is also balanced diet food) and then boiled chicken as higher valued training treats. Weirdly enough his main meals are still the highest value, over his treats too, but being wet food hard to feed while training.

    Have a look here: https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/the-dog-food-directory

I use Pooch & Mutt Health & Digestion. My puppy absolutely loves it and it is grain free as I wouldn't want my puppy filling up on wheat and maize, which is often used by many of the well known brands as a filler.

Definitely worth doing your research but you would wise to use puppy food for your puppy (clue is in the name) and not just dish out adult food in the proper quantity (whatever that means). Puppy food has a different mix of nutrients designed to support the rapid growth of your puppy. When your dog is an adult, it will need less calories and a different amount of minerals.
