Anyone have any opinions on this one? https://www.feedingravendoodles.com/articles/how-to-calculate-your-pets-calorie-needs Are there other ones that folks use? Thus far have been following this https://www.nomnomnow.com/learn/article/puppy-feeding-guide but came across that above one, was curious.
To make matters more confusing - Using the calculator above, an adult, intact 27kg (~60lbs) dog with ideal BCS and somewhat active level should have 70 * (27^.75) * 1.8 * 1.2 = ~1790 kcal However according to https://www.nomnomnow.com/learn/article/dog-weight-management same dog should be having 70 * (27^.75) * 1.1 = ~912 kcal According to our breeder, the same dog should only be having ~750 kcal
My thought for what it's worth; sod the maths and feed the dog in front of you. If you are feeding a good quality food, then go by the dog's condition. If he's losing weight, or doing more work, feed more, if he's gaining weight or doing less work, feed him less. I have 5 labs of similar weight, doing similar amounts of work, but have very different feeding requirements.
