Just looking for some advice. My almost 7 month old lab puppy has been limping on and off since mid December and got worse around 10 days ago or so. Took her the vet got a course of loxicom and told to rest. Paw improved slightly until the medication was finished and we tried to build up to slightly longer walks again.

She went back today to the vet and had some x-rays taken. They think it’s a hairline fracture around her equivalent of our knuckle bones that is putting pressure on the joint above as she’s compensating cause she’s sore. I’ve been given more loxicom and told strict rest for 4 weeks.

I asked about if she should be in her crate for most of this time and she said no as long as she wasn’t jumping and landing on things or over exercised that would be okay. I’m just worried because when I move she moves with me (always at my feet). I don’t know if I should try do part of the day in the crate and then allow her out. I just feel 4 weeks is a long time to be in a crate most of her days and I know long term it’s for her own benefit. I just want the right balance. Any advice or experience anyone has had with this would be great.

And if anyone has any good mental stimulation type games I can play with her to keep her wee brain ticking over that would be great. We have a snuffle mat and do tricks for treats and get her to leave and then sniff things out but just wondering if there’s others my brain can’t think of.

    Sorry for the long post
    TIA x

Thank you so much for that! Good ideas on that.
