    Hi ,
I’ve got a 10 week old black lab puppy, who when I try and introduce a lead , just wants to chew it. Have you got any handy hint to help please. Thank you very much.

    Watching with interest!

Our boy has always been a lead chewer. I went through five or six leads in the first six months.

his trainer told us to distract him when he “looks like he might chew the lead” but he ALWAYS wants to chew the lead, unless he’s on a walk. Our problem is the “getting ready for a walk” part.

@Helen Biggs I wouldn't think you needed to put a lead on a 10 week old puppy - you can just encourage them to follow you around the garden.

When you do need to put a lead on, put it on only when you are ready to walk and then you will be talking to the pup, rewarding every step or so with a treat at first. Another alternative is to give the pup something to carry such as a lightweight rope toy.
