    Hi everyone

I would be so grateful for any thoughts/advice if possible.

Last Friday night Belle was sick (not unusual I know) but Saturday morning She seemed strange. Not her usual self very quiet and off her food. I took her straight to the vets who felt her tummy and did blood tests but all came back normal and for an 8 year old lab the vet said she was in good condition.
She was given medication for gastroenteritis and we came home. Sunday was the same and Monday she wasn't drinking and just lying down a lot. I was giving her water through syringe and and was concerned that she was worse. My plan was to take her back to the vet Tuesday. Tuesday morning she seemed perkier, had a huge drink and was walking around more. I was so happy thought she was getting better. Tuesday night she went round the back of the house and I had to bring her inside. She wouldn't settle and was sick again. We put her in the bathroom with a bed and some water and I was going to ring the vets first thing. However first thing weds morning she was no longer here I'm absolutely heartbroken and just don't understand. I thought because she was 8 perhaps if it was a bug it would have just taken it out of her but never expected her to die. I have since spoke to the vet who was confident that on examination there were no flags of cause of concern and whatever took her was obviously quite aggressive and they may not have been able to do anything had she gone back.
She had cancer tumour on her stomach when she was 4 and it was removed and she was given a clean bill of health.

I'm devastated and I guess just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience as I'm struggling to accept that she is no longer here.

    Thank you in advance x

Oh so sorry to read this. It is so hard to lose a pet but particularly not knowing what caused it. I don’t think you will ever know what happened but I would be suspicious that it was linked to the previous cancer. Just be kind to yourself and allow yourself to grieve, it is painful. Take care .

Thank you for your kind words. I'm just struggling to accept her sudden departure and have so many what if's. she has left a hole in our lives and I need to move forward knowing I will never Know why and if I could have helped her and the guilt of that.
I know I can't turn back time or change anything now I just wish she was here and I could cuddle her and comfort her. Thank you for listening. It's nice to just get it out x

Hi, I've just seen your post about the loss of your gorgeous Belle and wanted to say how sorry i am. I lost my previous girl in similar circumstances to you and it's awful, I felt exactly as you do. It's 2 years ago now and I still miss her. If my mind wanders to the dreadful night we lost her i try and think about all the wonderful times we had together, she had a wonderful life with us as we loved her so much and took great care of her. We will never know why I'm afraid and please don't feel guilty, you sound like a lovely owner that cared very much for Belle. I hope things will feel a bit easier for you soon. Take care
