We recently brought home a new black lab, Windy. He's currently 12 weeks old (9 weeks old when brought him home) and our older lab, Barney (8 years old) would bark nonstop the moment Windy tries to come near him. Barney growls and air snaps when Windy jumps up at him to play, which we think is appropriate, but once Windy lies down / rolls over, Barney would still continue to bark at him for a while. From there, if Windy moves even a little (e.g. from a down to a sit), Barney would bark nonstop until he completely lies down again. Barney also barks and sometimes growls when Windy tries to sniff his butt, but Barney himself would occasionally sniff Windy after their meal time (they eat peacefully around 6 feet apart). We're not sure if this would be considered overcorrecting / bullying, and it's been 3 weeks since the pups started living together. Once the barking dies down, we tend to separate the two, Windy into his exercise pen and Barney can just chill wherever, because we're worried that Barney could run out of patience if Windy continues to try and play. Barney has never socialized properly, but he used to have an older lab brother, Elmo, that passed away a few months ago. He got along with Elmo perfectly fine since day one (Elmo was 4 when Barney came home) and they used to play together a lot until Elmo got too old. I'm sure the puppy is annoying to the older dog but is there anything we can do to help them get along?
