I have had to help many pets to cross the Rainbow Bridge. However tomorrow is very hard to say goodbye to our 11 year old Beautiful Chocolate Lab Abbey. She has Osteosarcoma and I do not want to have her suffer through this horrible disease. Once we noticed the swelling and slight limp the X-ray showed that it had already metastasized into her lungs. Three months if you notice early. We obviously are further along than a month. I believe in my heart that one day to early is far better than one day to late. Love my little Sweet Pea ❤️

    Hi there,

I'm so sorry that this is happening. It's so sad that our dogs can't stay with us longer.

Pippa has written about her own experiences of saying goodbye to a dog with cancer in this article on our main site, it is has lots of comments from people who have been where you are now.

I hope that perhaps they'll give you strength for the weeks ahead, and in time you'll find comfort from all your happy memories with Abbey too.

    Best wishes,

    Sarah

    Really sorry to hear this.

I just went through putting my sweet 7 year old black lab down because of a large stomach tumor. I am not a sensitive man but I am not ashamed to say that I cried for a week straight. I somehow pulled my self together.

I immediately went on a search for a new puppy and she will be here end of April.

I will always have a lab in my life untill I take my own last breath!!!

    Take care...

So sorry for your loss. When our 15 year old Lab died I cried every morning for the first few.weeks- just waking up and remembering she wasn't there to greet me.
Glad to hear you've found a puppy. Won't replace your.dog but helps.heal the heart.

We just put our 11 year old chocolate lab to sleep last night. The tears just won’t stop flowing. Compounding my grief is the complete sadness and devastation of my 4 year old yellow lab. He has continued to search for his brother, is extremely needy and depressed. It’s so sad to see and not really sure how to help him when I am a mess myself. Hoping time will heal.

I feel your pain. We had to do the same on Sunday with our 14yrs and 8 months chocolate boy. Day 3, I wake up crying & dread going downstairs as he won't be there. It was all very sudden, his back legs just went so no time to prepare. We knew we couldn't let him go on for our sake though. I'm sending you a virtual hug and I hope for both our sakes, the pain eases x

This is how I'm feeling right now. Just feel broken. We said goodbye to our lab on Sunday. He was 14 and 8 months. His back legs just gave way. I am at the guilt stage of thinking "could I have done anything" bit he really was his normal self until Saturday. The shock of it all has rail roaded me and I just can't stop crying.

Had the same here with my 10yr old yellow lab. My 7yr old was so sad for weeks. Then we found our new pup who has brought back spark and joy.

Update: it’s been 2 weeks since I put my 11 year old to sleep and his surviving 4 year old yellow lab is still grieving. Not sure how long this last or what I can do to help him. His sleep patterns are off, not interested in playing with his doggy friends and just sulking. Any ideas what I can do to help and how long does this last?
