Hi, I am looking at buying a Labrador puppy. I have contacted a breeder and was interested in the puppies they have until i asked for the hip scores and other health tests. The sire is extensively health tested, he has great elbows 0:0 and is clear of many other inherited diseases. However, his hip scores are 3:6. I read that the best scores are low but even or just slightly off eg 2:3. Is 3:6 too uneven that there’s a big possibility it will cause problems? He’s been used by different breeders for other litters but I can’t see anything about his previous litters and their hip scores.

Personally, I would not be too concerned at all. Bare in mind that each hip is scored out of 53, so 3 and 6 is good. Sometimes an uneven score can just be due to poor positioning of the dog for the xrays.
