I am not an experienced owner so wonder if someone might be able to give me the benefit of their advice. Our 6.5 month old working black lab has now fully transitioned to Eden 80/20 kibble and seems to be doing very well on the food. We chose Eden as it has such high protein and fruit/veg - we would have liked raw but not able to commit to raw for various reasons. Her coat is glossy and she looks in good health. Eden have two flavours and we chose the Original with chicken and duck. Her previous kibble was duck based. She'd never had chicken. Her coat around the base of her spine and tail have become greasy and definite signs of dandruff. She is brushed with the Kong brush every day and I've followed Pippa's link to grooming and also have the Furminator. I am wondering if the change in her fur and skin is perhaps age related? She's now in teenage stage. Is is perhaps hormonal. She has a few spots under her chin. Or maybe the chicken in her new food? Since changing I've read so many comments about labs not getting along with chicken. We've been doing so well up to now and sometimes one wonders why we make changes at all!
Hi I would say you are brushing too much and bringing the oils to the surface. Mine only gets brushed when he is moulting and after swimming a good rub down gets rid of loose hair. I don’t have a Furminator but think they can be over used on a lab too.
Hi J.D thank you - I hadn't thought of that and you could be right. Would be brilliant if that was the case and nothing to do with the food.
