My black lab is 7 months.

when I walk him on the lead he displays boisterous behaviour towards myself when he doesn’t get his own way. If I pull him away from another dog or put him back on the lead he jumps up and bites my arms.

he now when let off will purposefully run at me and jump up and bite my arm.

he never latches on when he bites but he done and broke the skin on my hand.

I have tried telling him no in a stern voice
Pulling away but he carries on jumping up at me

When I am with my partner he isn’t too bad. He seems to only display this behaviour with me mostly.

He is a very strong muscular lab so I struggle.

    Any tips for this behaviour
Is this a a phase he will grow out of?

Hi. I've only joined here today and already feel better seeing ai many going through the same thing. Rest assured ...we have this issue. Our boy is nust iver 6 months and bumps bites and growls and latches on ..obviously in hyper rage or frustration but it is scary. Weve gone through soen training and armed with treats we throw a few out and say "find it" excitedly if we anticipate or if hes already biting. His nose is then put to work and we praise this good behaviour. In their it sounds like it should work and it does in those moments...we are waiting for it to filter into daily life now as we get lots of this behaviour. They keep saying nose work helps use energy. Hope that helps xx

Have you attended obedience training with your lab?

If you haven't attended obedience training I would highly recommend it. Most of these bad behavior issues on walks can be fixed rather quickly with good sound obedience training.

When I trained my girl I could walk her anywhere with no leash if I wanted to. She would ignore other dogs and distractions and focus on walking with me.

Its painful for me to watch out of control dogs in public because it doesn't have to be that way.

I would love to of done obedience classes but because of lockdown there wasn’t any available and nobody would do it. I’m going to try and find somewhere to take him when the rules are lifted

It’s heartbreaking when he gets this manic rage as my lab is so big and strong and can over power me.

Iv tried smell work and treats but he finds people and other dogs as higher distractions.

    has yours got any better

It took about a year to get my girl in check. Even at one year she would only listen to me and drive my wife a daughters up the wall if I wasn't home... :)

I have exactly same problem with our lab of 7 months. Sadly he broke his femur at age 6 months, so needs to be caged and kept on lead at all times. Very hard as I had him at classes and doing well we thought it was his frustration. We have at least another 4 weeks before he can be free. Hoping he will grow out of the aggresive biting on occasions. Our lab is a huge dog also and we keep a harness on at all times to stop him jumping and running. I wondered if it is lack of sleep as he is better after a nap.
