    Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum.
I would like some advice please for my nearly 6 year old Labrador Max.

Last week my sister was looking after two Pomeranians and she brought them round to ours to meet Max. The male Pom was very yappy and it looked like he was bullying Max. The Poms also went inside our house and smelled Max's bed, blankets and toys etc.

Ever since the visit Max has showed signs of anxiety. He has been pacing and breathing quickly. He doesn't like us leaving him alone, even if it is just to go the other room. My husband has been sleeping downstairs with him which helps but obviously isn't a great long term solution!

Max is ok when he goes out for his walks, toilet breaks and feeding. It is just once he is inside the house that the anxiety returns. What do you find helps? We have tried massage and relaxing music, distraction games and positive reinforcement but the effects don't last. Do the calming plug ins help? I would be grateful for your suggestions.

    Many thanks,
    Zoe

    Hi Zoe,

    Welcome to the forum :)

Poor Max! It's great that you're responding to his needs rather than hoping he'll stoically get on with things. Dogs are like us - when something distressing happens, it can shake them up for a few days.

A pheromone collar or plug in might relieve his anxiety, and by the time it's worn off he might feel more fully recovered in himself. Have you also given his bedding and toys a wash and cleaned the floors to get rid of the smell of the other dogs?

I hope he's feeling better soon!
