I'm struggling to cope with the loss of my 9year old girl kaysa. She was the most amazing Labrador ever. On 17th of February I let her in the garden for a pee. She came back in all happy and wagging her tail. I walked out the room for 5 minutes and heard a thud I thought she had thrown herself on to the floor to roll over and do her back scratching dance. I came back in and tried to call her over with no response I went over to her and there she was eyes wide open tongue hanging out. That was her gone. How can she go from being happy one minute to dead the next minute. I'm struggling to cope with the loss of her . She was my best friend. She was with me all the time. She constantly followed me everywhere. I moss and love her so much.
Hi Kim, Welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry to read Kaysa's story, you've had such a traumatic experience. We've written about pet bereavement over on our main site, and that article might be of some help to you. Even though the sadness never completely goes away, you do find a way to live with it, in time. Take care x
So sorry to hear that. It will take a while to get over the shock before you can move on. Do you have any idea of the cause? Will you find out? Take care of yourself.
The vet said she most likely passed from a heart attack . It is a struggle. I got her cremated and she'll be back home on Wednesday x
So sorry to hear your sad news. It must be such a shock. Did the vet give you any indication what the cause might have been ? It might help you come to terms with it. Look after yourself, it’s not easy .
That is sad but the consolation is she didn’t suffer. I used to wonder what my previous dog would be like as an old boy. He died at nearly twelve after a short illness and never really got to that stage. I felt he missed out on a couple of years but am grateful that he was fit and healthy during those years. I still have his ashes and can’t quite let go of them. It was nice to have him back home. Take care of yourself. It gets better with time.
Hi Kim, I know exactly how you’re feeling. We’ve just lost our little black Labrador (10 months old) in a similar way. He went to bed fit and healthy and he died in his sleep. It just seems so unfair. Stay strong, Mark
I'm so sorry to hear this. What a terrible shock for you. Our dog Cleo also died very suddenly-- it seemed like a massive stroke. I was comforted somewhat knowing that she didn't suffer...
I found my choccy lab dead 7 year old i came home lunch time to let him out for a wee ,dead on floor tongue out eyes wide open ,no wee or sick around him im devastated and we are awaiting results of postmortem, so heartbreaking
That is so sad, so sorry. My friend had her dog do what she thought was a dance and collapse, the vet thought a heart attack too. She was in shock. I had my dog be very happy, had a piece of prime rib night before and then next morning be lethargic, wouldn't eat. I thought oh, I shouldn't have given him any roast but it was just a tiny piece. After 2 hours we took him to vet and I was shocked he said his gums were pale, he probably had a spleen tumor and was bleeding. Ultrasound showed that and he was fading then. We chose to euthanize since he was 12, it's an aggressive tumor and he'd probably die on the table. The shock of it had me numb for 2 days. I feel for you but I tell myself that I'm glad it was fast and not drawn out in pain and riddled with cancer or seeing him fade daily. Not too much comfort but I had the other and know it was worse. My heart goes out to you and all who deal with the other side of loving a pet.
