Hi everyone, We have a 15 month old Golden labrador - Dexter. He is our pride and joy and we want to make sure we fo the best by him. We haven't had our own dog before although grew up with dogs. We aren't sure whether to get him castrated or not. We feel in Australia they push you towards getting it done however in UK where we both grew up our parents never got our dogs castrated and I don't think its done as much as here. We don't know what to do for the best? We hear stories of it reducing risks of cancers and behaviour issues then we read contradicting information too. We thought this would be the best place to ask for advice that is neutral and not a vet looking for money. Thank you
Hello! I have an 18 month old yellow lab and I am having the same internal debate as to whether or not to neuter Ellis. What did you decide and if you did neuter him, did it change his personality at all? Thanks!!
Hi, I am in the Uk and have had 2 dogs. My vet wouldn't do it unless there was a problem. My Newfoundland died intact age 13 and my Malamute was neutered age 9 when he had alopecia X, and was pretty bald. Castration made his fur grow back. If they have very sexualized behaviour it can help, otherwise not really necessary. Well, in my vets view, and I trusted him
