Duke is my yellow lab. He has very recently developed a red rash like on top of his paws. We have a large back yard, with lots of vegetation and weeds. He is a hunter by breeding so he retrieves balls non stop, and he goes hard into the brush and cedars. Has anyone seen this? He licks his paws non stop.

A red raw rash sounds like a hotspot to me, especially if he is giving it undo attention and licking a lot.
it could be a contact allergy - but that would generally be all feet not just one. It could be the result of a food sensitivity too - have you changed foods recently? There are topicals and such to use for healing hotspots. I would book an appointment with the vet to check for anything else, and to recommend a treatment plan specific for Duke.

Good luck! And prayers for healing for Duke.

Hi, my dog used to get hotspots a couple of times on his neck. My vet suggested it was happening when there's basically a tiny graze, from a bramble/ thorn etc, then the fur got wet (he swims and it rains a lot here), the graze doesn't dry and it gets infected. We always ended up at the vets with antibiotics.....
Maybe his paw got a graze from sth spikey.

    Hope that helps.

He would appear to be allergic to something he is running through. If you speak to your local vet they may know which vegetation local to you could be causing it so you can avoid it and give you something to make him more comfortable. In the U.K. you can give over the counter Piriton but that may not be the case where you are.
Spend sometime doing nose work to tire him out whilst his skin settles down. Chasing after a ball isn’t the best form of exercise(search articles on the main website)
