Our third lab. We always run into this and I never know what to do.

We are never very successful in getting pups to co-exist with us. Pup has plenty of toys, plenty of exercise, we are retired and full time with him.

When out of crate he is no longer interested in toys but wants to roam around and swipe anything not nailed down. I cannot puppy proof every area and live in a bare house. He is obsessed with it.

My go to is usually crate time out but I feel that is not really teaching him anything. I try not to give into the chase but if he has something of value I’m not going to let him destroy it.

Thoughts? I always feel maybe we crate too much for a stretch of peace. What does your typical day look like with a 5-6 month old lab?

I’m going to start today on leave it and stay. Maybe that’s a start. He’s a good pup otherwise and smart too.

Thanks for any input. I always doubt myself at this stage and honestly don’t enjoy the pup a whole lot at this point!

Hi, it is a demanding age. We taught leave and or drop. Drop was too successful as we swopped items for a treat, soon she was piling up shoes at our feet ! We did move lots of easy reach items and had child gates on the doors, so no sneaking through. It passes, keep training and reduce access in the mean time.
