My 2 year old female lab has suddenly decided her job in life is to clear our large garden of squirrels before anyone goes out. She will also try to clear out the woods when we are walking. She has lost lots of focus and is slow to recall when on the chase. She always keeps me in sight but I can't always see her. I know I need to sort out the garden sorted first. How can I convince her it's not her job when it's so rewarding??
My lab chases rabbits if off leash but so odd he ignores squirrels and we have so many more of them. He's going on 8 and his hunting instinct is strong. IMO it's not a correctable behavior and I don't care because he'll never catch one. You may need to fence your garden until he gets with the program.
Thanks for the reply. You are right she has no chance of catching one and the garden is safe, it's just the lack of recall on a walk. Back to the longline methinks...
