My 15 week old yellow Lab puppy had loose stools and diarrhea last week. Two days ago we took him in as he was peeing excessively in his pet crate and outdoors. Took a urine sample and Vet said no UTI, urine normal.

Prescription for Metronidazole 25o mg - half tablet every 12 hours. We have had our Lab on a bland white rice diet even before the GI antibiotic.

Today after peeing indoors nearly 10 times in 3 hours my wife called the vet. She was told this is "perfectly normal" and that we need to potty train our dog again, taking him out every 10 minutes.

Something is not copacetic here - I don't understand. I have owned many dogs and suspected colitis. Retraining? He was doing just fine till he fell ill last week. Baffled!

    No idea how!

Solved by prescription for Clavamox 250 mg - given 1/2 tablet for breakfast and the other after 12 hours. 7 tablet prescription.

After first complete tablet issues solved back to almost normal - so glad for the puppy.

Unfortunately it appears the UTI never fully went away and 4th trip to vet likely today. Last time I took him in for rabies shot we discussed with vet.

Update - on Sunday we took our male Lab into a different vet clinic. Blood work showed no UTI - but they did diagnose Coccidia from lab work. He is on 2 prescriptions for Albon, an antibiotic in 2 different strengths taken once a day. A bit upset our vet never thought of or diagnosed our puppy with this after 6 separate trips. Hopefully on the way to a full recovery!
