Hello I’m new here , I have a 13 and a half year old choc lab called maisy, she has mast cell tumours near her bits and one on her belly which she is not having any treatment for as cant be removed safely and I felt chemo etc would be too much at her age and her back legs are going , she has lost weight but is still eating loads all she wants to do is eat lol but she’s slow and sometimes poops or is sick inside , she hasn’t pooped where she sleeps . I honestly don’t know if it’s her time I’ve read about quality of life but I’m struggling as she’s still eating and moving her back legs are getting worse though , I cry just thinking about it , I just want some opinions really

Hi Tracy, welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you're joining us at such as sad and difficult time, Maisy looks like a beautiful soul. Pippa has shared her thoughts about knowing when to let go in this article on our Labrador Site, which also has lots of comments at the bottom from people who have been in your position. I hope it helps, and if you'd like to tell us more about Maisy, we'd love to hear about her :) x

Hello, I think most of us on here have been in your situation one time or another. I have been there 4 times now and totally understand your mixed feelings. I found chatting to my vet helped who was very empathetic and each time came to my home and put them to sleep there. I think when their back legs start going, things get so much harder for them and can be distressing. I am not sure that helps, but we all feel for you.
