My female yellow is near 3 years of age. Around 7 months ago, she started having urinary accidents, primarily while sleeping, especially after a good workout. In addition to leaking while sleeping, she started having some dribbling while just laying around. These episodes came and went with random frequency, but started to become more frequent in the last few months. She was spayed at 11 months of age, gets loads of exercise, is a healthy weight, and is in otherwise incredible shape. She is very high energy, and very task-driven, which we largely exercise by fetch, and other than the incontinence she's healthy and happy. I approached our vet with the issue, and we tried a course of DES (diethylstilbestrol), at 1mg/day for a week, followed by once every 3/4 days. It appeared that the dribbling and accidents stopped near the end of the week with daily doses, but it started again by 4-5 days, and even after the 4th day dose. I'm reluctant to try her on Proin due to side-effects (she's a little high strung, and I don't think that stimulants would be good for her). Anybody else ever have a young lab with DES-resistant urinary incontinence, and have some advice?
We are going through the same thing with our 4 year old lab. Also very active and a bit high strung. We thought she had a UTI, and was treated with antibiotics, but the incontinence continues. I have a hard time taking her to the vet because she can be very fearful and i'm in the process of looking for someone with a lot of patience. Mine doesn't dribble, this seems to be happening while she is sleeping and only while she is sleeping at night. Thanks for your post, it helps to not feel alone in this. Also looking for advice.
