Hi my name is Janet I have a yellow lab 6 year old her name is Rosie and 99% of the time she is calm and normal, but when family visit or anyone she likes comes she gets so excited barking non stop running around wagging her tail she’s so loud you can’t hear what anyone is saying, sadly I have to shut her away from the very people she wants to see.she also does this if we go out when we return home. This behaviour only began about 18 months ago before that she was fine . If anyone has any advice how to deal with this behaviour it would be much appreciated.it’s so embarrassing Thanks Janet
Does that timeline fit with changing lockdown rules ? I guess she was pretty young when all visitors to the home stopped, her behaviour would not have been proofed. Then as rules relaxed she forgot her calm meeting manners. I would go back to basics, treat her like a pup again. Enlist a helpful volunteer who can come and do some pre planned sessions. Get them to come in and turn their backs and ignore her, reward when quiet, repeat and repeat.
Thanks for answering my message you’re quite right it did start when lock down ended I never thought of that I will carry out your plan and see how we go ,fingers crossed that it works thank you Janet
