    Hi all,
As is probably the case with many floppy-ear dogs, my boy's perennial problem is ear yeast infections. The vet's inclination is to use miconazole to inhibit the yeast, and dexamethasone for the inflammation. The latter causes him to drink nearly half again as much as he usually does, which is a welcome side-effect since he also has chronic kidney disease.

Some thing that has gone in his ears has also changed his breath to be similar to permanent wave hair solution. When I noticed how much his urine specific gravity dropped, I stopped the ear meds and also the omeprazole for what I believe is GERD. His breath odor returned to normal within a few days, at which point I used Xymox to flush his ears. The next day, the odd breath odor returned.

Has anyone else noticed a similar change in their dog's breath from any of these ear preparations?
Has anyone found a good way to prop up their dog's ears to get some air circulation? In the winter, I have taped the ends of his ears together, but I dare not do this in summer because of the risk of sun burn.

    Thanks,
    Scott
