Hi all, I have a 6 month old male golden Labrador. He has all of a sudden started having poo accidents overnight. He is generally very good at going toilet outside using the cue 'toilet' and up until this week, has only ever had one or two overnight accidents. This week though, it has been every night on our living room rug. TMI but they are very large and I suspect it is a case that he cannot hold it any longer. We've tried feeding him a little earlier, as well as taking him for a final evening walk at around 9pm where we will encourage him to go. He also has access to the garden until around 11pm when we will close the patio door up for the night. He is not in a crate. The rug has been cleaned with an enzyme cleaner. Any ideas on why he is suddenly having accidents - and what we can do to help him? Thanks! Amber and Benji
Hi Amber. I would start with a vet check, as this is a new problem for him - we want to rule out any physical causes first of all Once that's all clear, perhaps you'd like to lay out his daily routine for us - when he exercises, what and when he eats, etc, and we can see if we have any tweaks to suggest And it sounds like preventing access to the living room overnight would be a good step towards breaking the habit too! Sammie.
Having access to the garden until 11 pm doesn't mean he'll go out on his own before bedtime to do his business. I'd take him for a 10-minute walk before bed.
