Hi all I am new to the site and want to tell Roxy's story. She is a 5 year old black lab who I rescued from a life of neglect. I am British but retired and living in the Philippines, I had two black labs, brother and sister, unfortunately the female was poisoned by some food thrown into my garden laced with rat poison at 2 years old and the brother unfortunately died from distemper aged 4. This disease is rampant here and unfortunately the vet service is abysmal, he had all the vaccinations but we found out the breeder falsified his original records and the vet who gave the yearly ome had not stored them correctly and were also expired.

Getting back to Roxy, she was thrown out by her first owner around 1 yr old coz was too noisy, taken in by a family down my street who hoped to make money from breeding her, they had 5 other dogs, she was kept cged in the hot sun 24/7 for 2 1/2 years without walking or exercise and developed a serious skin condition, lost all her hair and became obese.

When my male lab passed away I was grieving, but after 2 months I was so sad at the sight of this poor lab I asked if I could give her a home and they agreed. I gave her a course of injections to protect her and started treating her with special cream that I knew of, it has taken 8 months but she is back to the beautiful black lab that she should be.

She is so friendly, lovable and and adorable she is the love of my life, trouble is I think she has memories of her previous life and has a bit of separation anxiety, follows me every where, pines when I go out and is so overjoyed when I get back. She really is adorable and i thank her for bringing joy back into my life, what is it about labrador's, especially black ones that endears them to us so much, and THOSE EYES staring at you are the sort of eyes you would love a lot of women would have.

The best thing iI have done as a typical British dog lover was to rescue her and give her the love she deserves

Welcome to the forum. It’s so sad that someone could be so cruel to such a loving and caring animal such as a lab, let alone any dog in general. I’m glad she found someone like you to love and care for her and give her the treatment she deserves.

I can’t help you regarding separation anxiety, but I’m sure you will get some advice in due time. The experts on here are really knowledgeable.

Hi all Lab lovers its been a long time since I told you about my beautiful Roxy who I rescued and became my beautiful companion and best friend over the last 8 yrs. Unfortunately she became ill with a serious kidney and bladder problem and was treated by the vet for the last 6 months. Unfortunately there was no cure only treatment. sadly on the 6th September this year she passed away peacefully. she was 11 yrs 8 months old. she really was the love of my life and so loving and I miss her so much, she will always be deep in my heart and it belongs to her. I pray that when its my turn I will go to where she is at rest to join her. She waa cremated and the ashes are with me at home and in a necklace I wear
