5 year old Lab, never been force fetched.
Waterfowl hunter. She continues to bring dummy back and stop short and she will just start chewing grass and dis obey the come command and continue to come to me.

Things are not too bad in real situations but training drills it gets real annoying !

Any advice how to work on this?

    Hi there,

Your best bet is probably to teach your Lab to pick up, hold and deliver a dummy and to practice that in many different situations before returning to drills.

There are two very different ways to do this, one is force-fetch which is the most common method used in North America. The other is a force free fetch which is more popular in Europe. You can see an example of this in this article. It isn’t exactly how I teach any more, but it will give you an idea of what’s involved.

Go back to the basics. Which means, basic obedience. No chewing grass or disobeying when we are working.

I have never taught force fetch to any dog, most dogs are natural retrievers and don't need it anyway. I think your issue is lack of training.
