I got back from work today to find murphy loose in the kitchen! The dog walker had left him 2 hours before then and she says that she definately shut him back in his crate but clearly not!! When I got back there was lots of accidents over the floor (which is unusual as in his crate he can go 3 hours without needing a wee) and lots of muddy foot prints everywhere which was obviously where he was muddy when back from his walk. Then as I was clearing it all up he was sick everywhere and then went and sat in his crate which is extremely unusual! He has really red eyes as well so I think he is stressed? I have only twice ever left him loose in the kitchen for 10 mins at a time whilst filming him on my iPad and he has always been very restless and anxious for the whole time whereas when I have filmed him in his crate he just goes to sleep so I hate to think of him distressed for the 2 hours he was left . Next door said he made a lot of noise and she was wondering why because he usually doesn't. He's got puppy class now which I'm not sure whether to go to or not but I think I am but if he acts funny then will leave early (iv already paid for the full 6 week course). He's asleep on the floor at the mo. anyway sorry for this little rant, it doesn't really have a purpose!! X
Re: Mysteriously escaped from crate!! Poor Murphy - it does sound a bit mysterious doesn't it - might be a bit unkind to throw suspicion on your dogwalker...but.... Hope he settles down for the rest of the evening - poor wee soul. Let us know if he is ok later,

Frankie rant away,you've had a fright and are probably a bit ticked off too.Dex couldn't get out of his crate,I don't think she's secured murphy when she's left .....is she a friend,how well do you know her ? You've put a question mark after red eyes...I can't answer,I'd have to google,you know me and my one dog experience ;D does Murphy like his puppy class?if so it might be a nice end to the day,learning some stuff,having some treats and playing with some pals....if neither of you are happy,like you say,just come away,sorry you've had this happen x
Re: Mysteriously escaped from crate!! Oh poor thing, I hope he is rallying now. Only two thoughts: Charlie has got out of his pen twice. Both times we thought "O, must not have put the latch on properly". No. We caught him. He sticks his tongue through the bars and licks at the catch. Sooner or later he licks up, and then again, and because the catch is stiff (a good thing we thought) it doesn't go back down. Eventually, he does it and flips the catch up. Well, he did, but a bit of elastic soon fooled his escape plots. ;D ;D ;D When Charlie was younger, he had slightly droopy lower eye lids. The vet said we'd see how he grew but maybe he would need a little "tuck". As it turns out, they are getting better all the time as he grows and it's barely noticeable now. Anyways...his eyes would go red when he was stressed or super excited. Then go back to normal after a little snooze.

We went to puppy class and he was pretty good if not a tad subdued, but we stayed for the whole time and we discovered that one of the other puppys there is his brother from the same litter! But when we got back I tried to give him his tea and i thought that he would be hungry as he threw up his lunch but he just sniffed it and left it which is a little worrying! Re: Mysteriously escaped from crate!! Dexter, the dog walker is a behaviourist who has a pet care business as well. It was her visiting today, shes normally really good, she must have just thought shed done it but not. At least now she will always make sure she has done it properly! I have been wanting to decrate him and leave him in the kitchen when we are out but i think i will wait a little bit after what happened today! X
Re: Mysteriously escaped from crate!! His eyes do look a bit red, don't they... Sometimes a bit of a flush out with saline helps (1 teaspoon salt in 1 cup lukewarm water). Sounds like the crate is the way to go That is very amusing about Charlie getting out via licking the latch....he's a funny lad ;D
Re: Mysteriously escaped from crate!! Frankie,I'm a dope,I've read the red eyes in the context with stress...but I have come across it. Dexter looked exactly the same a couple of times when he was 5-6 months old....once they even were really yellow and pussy when I came down to him in the morning.it was an irritation of his 3rd eyelid....when the vet had a look it appeared like it had tiny red goosebumps on it ......he had steroid cream for it to clear up the discharge and after that I always popped a drop of tears naturelle ( human saline drops) to keep his eyes lubricated and flushed from sand that could have added to the irritation.its really common and she said he would grow out of it by 12 months as they kind of grow into their face and it creates more space around the 3 rd eyelid ....he's absolutely fine now. His eyes look a bit better today so im hoping its just from where he stressed himself out and is also knackered from everything x
