Hey all - been a while since I posted - Frisbee has stopped attacking my 4 daughter's and their clothes - just takes time :).

I'm back to get some advice on food for this rascal. I switched him from Purina Pro Large Breed Puppy (what the breeder had him on) a couple of months ago. I went with a non-grain food and he loves it - but it makes many of his stools loose. I went to the non-grain because my previous lab - Barkley - had skin issues that caused him to be on antibiotics many times throughout his life. I had heard that it could have been caused by grains in the food he ate - Science Diet. I've been debating going back to Purina Pro Plan but figured I'd ask you nice people what you thought would be the best way to go. He's over 60lbs now and doing great otherwise.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey there,
We use a grain-free diet and the only change in stool after the change over period ( from a combination of something similar to you in the Pro Plan large puppy and a supermarket brand wet and dry - don't ask it was a hassle) was that Lilly's stool was possibly more consistently firm and smaller.
    Which doesn't relly help you.
Whenever we tried to change her as a puppy she always went really loose which put us off changing. In retrospect I don't think we did it slowly enough and so didn't persevere.
Main reason I swapped was a concern that grain was implicated in dry skin. It probably wasn't but rather shampooing the cause. But I am happier now with the quality of my grain free food.
    Good luck!

I feed my dogs Arden Grange lamb and rice. The lamb is a great slow release complex protein and the food is great for dogs with allergies

My problem with the lamb foods I have come across? - they really make me feel nauseous.
Its a rare event lamb anything makes its way into my shopping basket.
But I know quite a few people who have had success with lamb based kibble.

The top 2 ingredients in Royal Canin (including gastro intestinal) are rice and dehydrated chicken. Whenever I've thought to put Charlie on rice and chicken instead of his Royal Canin kibble, I've then thought 'hang on...'.
