Well this time last week we had a very poorly puppy...D and V. He was so lethargic and dehydrated I thought we might lose him. Vets were fantastic and gave him anti sickness jabs and antibiotics etc. He perked up but didn't eat anything until Wednesday. He then had another small dose of diarrhoea so I gave him some chicken and rice. Well that seems to have been the wrong thing to do as his tummy became very distended and he woke up in the night and exploded all over the patio and again this morning Has anyone had any experience of a lab with digestive problems? He has never been fond of food apart from a bit of chicken and often leaves it after only a few mouthfuls. Should I take him back to the vets do you think?

Re: Poorly tummy Got back from vets. She has given him some special food for gasterointestinal problems and wants me to get a poo sample....lovely :-\ will have to wait and see!

[/quote] Gosh,Emma,sorry you've had all this worry. I've never had the dramatic manifestations you have had but Dexter has got a sensitive stomach... His stools are never really firm,they hold form but are very moist( so sorry I hate writing details of poo) when he first arrived he had very runny stools .Vet investigations put it down to change of environment ( snow of Scotland to sand of Dubai) his diet,and the complication of a case of giardia. The giardia was fixed with 2 lots of antibiotics ,which prolonged the runny stools ,I then changed his food from Royal Canin Maxi Puppy to Royal Canin Gastrointestinal ( is that similar to what Charlie is on now?) and things improved ,not radically but to what I consider 'Normal' as described above.Dexter can only have steamed chicken as training rewards and occasionally roast chicken.....but roast chicken can have consequences if not strictly rationed!anything else upsets him dreadfully. I've posted this week in Labrador Health - Food again- sorry about a recent conversation I've had with our new vet and I'm considering changing dexters food to a lamb based food rather than the chicken one he is on now.We live such a delicate balance with his tummy though Im actually a bit scared of doing it as I don't want to make things worse. Jen has had big tummy issues too...I'm not sure what she feeds her 2 now. Hope Charlie is on the mend,it's worrying when they are poorly and critical to get their diet right x
