I took Scout to the beach this morning as I do every morning, so randomly she just started to drink the sea water. I had water for her but she wasn't interested in it. I kept calling her off and telling her no whenever I saw her doing it.
We get in the car to go home and she starts crying, which was strange because she normally just flops on the back seat and has a snooze- after 5 mins of constant crying she vomits *everywhere* thank god for seat covers.
I rushed home and got her straight in the house and she drank her water bowl dry and it's a big bowl... I gave her a hug and put her to bed, she just sat in her cage (not closed) and went to sleep for a couple of hours and she was sound. When she did wake she vomited again but this time just all water.

I've been watching her all day and she is quiet but I think she is ok. I have fed her as normal but without any treats. She has a bit of diarrhoea now but thank god no more sickness..

Has this happened to anyone else?

    Xx

    Oh yes......
Only the once mind you - next time I think she knew better ;D
We had a nice long walk in the woods off lead after the seawater swallowing so at least had the vomiting and diarrhoea BEFORE we got back in the car.
Angela posted somewhere though that a couple of her friends dogs were quite unwell after drinking too much seawater and needed to go on drips at the vets.
Wise to be alert to how she is doing I think - eating her dinner and keeping it down sounds like a good sign :)

Jacqui is right,Tam the little spaniel was really poorly,he threw up sand  he's an absolute manic retriever and my friend was throwing a ball into the sea for them to run after ( one benefit to Dexter being a reluctant retriever ;D )it took a full 24 hours for Tam to recover properly,he was very quiet and off his food.
My friends German Shepherd drinks sea water too and throws up everytime he swims ...he's still not learnt!
Just to add if Scout is swimming properly ,monitor how long she is swimming for,it's such an trial to get any swimming time in here ( illegal to have dogs on ANY part of the beach ANY time)I let Dex swim too much on his first visit and he 'sprained' his tail......'frozen tail' syndrome...really painful for them x

She did it again this morning, she stops when I shout no most of the time. I really thought she would have learnt her lesson but unfortunately not.
She's not swimming at all, barely plodging. She skims the waters edge to drink it and that as far as she goes.

She must be still very tiny, right? I think I would just keep her away from the water's edge until she has grown a little and is a bit more sensible.
