I am a bit worried because our old boy Bones has to have a molar extracted on Wednesday. It is one of the ones right at the back - you would hardly notice it, because it is so far back in his mouth. The tooth has definitely got to come out - it is dark grey, almost black, and his mouth is beginning to smell... I am just worried about the anaesthetic, since he is nearly 14 and has a slight heart issue. But the vet says he really needs to have the extraction done, and I believe her. I remember how much happier our other old dog was, once his rotten tooth was taken out! Just a bit nervous, that's all... :-\
Re: Bones to have tooth extracted Good luck Bones! We'll be thinking of you, hopefully you'll feel much better after
Re: Bones to have tooth extracted Good news and bad. Not one, but three teeth extracted. He came through the anaesthetic well, but the vet was concerned about his liver and so once I got there to pick him up, did an ultra sound. Even I could see that his liver is very enlarged and grainy - which the vet says would explain why he has been losing weight over the last few months, despite eating well. So - hopefully he will have a few more happy and painfree months (especially without those wobbly teeth!), and then we shall see what happens. I really hope he is ok until after Christmas - both my grown up children live in America, and my son is coming to visit in November and then my daughter over Christmas. They both really want to spend time with him...
Re: Bones to have tooth extracted Glad the actual op went well. Fingers crossed for some more happy times ahead!
Re: Bones to have tooth extracted I bet he feels a lot better to have got rid of those teeth. Hope you have some more happy months together yet.
Re: Bones to have tooth extracted Karen Sorry to hear about Bones but I'm glad the op was successful. Fingers crossed for many more waggy days. Kerryn
Re: Bones to have tooth extracted Glad to hear that Bones came through his op just fine Karen , and hope that there are some happy times ahead for your lovely old boy x
Re: Bones to have tooth extracted Hi Karen sorry I missed this earlier - really pleased that Bones is through the op safely and best wishes for continued happy times for a good while yet. hugs from me and my boys Carole
Re: Bones to have tooth extracted Thanks everyone - he is eating like crazy, and to my amazement now wants to retrieve and competes with Poppy to carry the dummy!!!!! ;D ;D Of course he cant run very far or fast, so we do longer dummy searches with Pops, and then a short one for Bones, who then gets to carry the dummy for a while. He looks so proud!!! Poor old boy, I hadnt realized how much his teeth must have hurt. I thought he just didnt want to carry things any more because he was bored with it... We had a lovely day yesterday. It has been glorious weather here, fantastic autumn colours, clear bright skies and quite warm. I took the afternoon off work and we drove to the top of our local 'mountain', with fabulous views over the forests. The dogs played and did dummy work, then we went to the cafe and sat out on the balcony drinking coffee and eating cake, in true German style! The dogs and we all had a super time, and I was struck, yet again, by how lucky I am to have two such super dogs... and such a lovely partner . I think Bones is very happy at the moment, and that is the important thing for me. Thank you all for your concern.
Re: Bones to have tooth extracted Lovely to hear that he's got some bounce back! Very jealous of your lovely afternoon off, too!
