Well, it's warming up here, THANKFULLY but it's almostl going to far the other way. The temp has risen around 20 degrees in the last 24 hours or so, and it's not sitting at a balmy -2C...makes it SO much nicer to go for walks, let me tell you!!

However with the good comes the bad...instead of snow we are getting freezing rain. Got a bit here this afternoon with the result that the sidewalks had a little bit of an icy sheen to them when we went out for our evening walk tonight, at least the ones that have been cleared down to the pavement, that is.

I was walking carefully and trying to stay on the snowy bits but unfortunately I slipped and fell. No damage, thankfully, but my leash came out of my hand and as I gathered myself up I could see a furry Labrador bum heading away from me.

Before I could call him he stopped and turned to see what I was doing (!) and so I said "Simba! Sit! Stay!" as I walked towards him. I could see him thinking about it, but then bum went down and he sat as good as gold until I could get there and snap leash back on.

Treats and praise and on we went.

I tell ya, that sit/stay has been a saviour!

Very pleased with him...he's come a long way since June... :D

O no, glad to hear you are ok. I hate falls overs.

I think Simba is turning out to be a good boy. So he still has his problems, and you've still a job ahead of you, but he seems to be picking his lessons up. Well done you.

That slipping on ice on a walk business is stuff of my nightmares. Hence a moby any time I go out. And never in a million years would you get me ice skating.
But good Simba! All your efforts are definitely paying off :) :) :)

    Well done Simba brilliant. :D

Last year I got some of those ice tread things for the bottom of boots. They work really well on ice and compacted snow. Did feel like I was going to slip at all. Would definitely recommend them.

Modifying because what I should have written was Didn't feel like I was going to slip. Would definitely recommend them. Duh

No lasting damage, thanks everyone. Hip is a bit achy as it got stretched out more than it likes, but that's it. Yes, I was thinking of getting some ice grips...it's been so cold and we have so much snow that I hadn't needed it until now. Probably 80% of the sidewalks! although cleared, are not cleared down to the pavement all the way, so I can still just walk on snowy bits when there is slippery days like yesterday. But I still think they will be a good idea.

It's getting ABOVE zero today!! Yippee! Dog park here we come...although I went yesterday and no one else was there. Everyone must be Christmas shopping or something silly like that! :)

Oh Lisa, glad you are ok... We get the freezing rain here sometimes and it's awful, very dangerous. And yes Jen is right, the ice treaders are really helpful. But above all - GOOD BOY SIMBA!!! And well done to you for all that training. :)
