Not a biggie....I hope( I remember thinking that about his tail tip!)
Dexter had a sore pad yesterday, not a main paw pad the one in what I would describe the 'wrist' position.
Yesterday it looked like it had been grazed and the scab knocked off, today it is bigger and much rawer looking,I haven't seen him bothering that area at all in any way so can't think how he's done it as it's not a part of his foot that he stands on ???
Never mind I ,want it looking at and there was a free appointment at 3 pm so I'll let you know....haven't had a spare few minutes to google it,never mind ask you guys so just though a quick vet visit was the most efficient the way today is for me! X

Hugs to Dex. Hope it's nothing serious. I think I remember a forum dog needing to wear bandages around those pads for a bit (carpal pads?) as they had been scraped. It was one of debsie's dogs, I think.

Oh Blimey, thanks Julie.luckily that's not needed ,to be honest when I popped home to get him it had really dried up so I felt a bit of a flapper taking him...but it had dried up like that this morning so it doesn't do any harm to get it checked.A scrape is exactly what it looks like, a loose stone, jagged edge, skid when he did a fast turn? Who knows, she's just said keep it dry for 24 hours, and keep an eye on it.
Hope Charlie has got whatever upset him out of his system and is back to his full 'restricted movement' bouncey self x

Glad it was nothing serious, Angela... think you and Julie could do with loyalty cards for your vets right now! Just imagine all those lovely nectar points!

Oh yes. Just off for our 3rd 15-20 minute walk round the block - which is starting to drive both him and me nuts, but I can't risk putting him in the car on my own. He waits to get out ok, but takes flying leaps in, which is banned. Another 2 walks after this and he'll sleep for a bit. I'll be able to write a book soon - 101 15 minute on lead walks in SW19. ::) ::) ::)

    Hi Angela.
When we were looking after my SILs dog Georgie we didn't notice that all the mad dash retrieving with the ball chucker was scuffing her carpal pads (yes it was us, not Debsie)
Vet suggested a bit of antibiotic cream and covering the pads. Well we triet the vet wrap but it just slipped off. A friend suggested using aloe vera lip salve as a moisturiser and healer and this did the trick, along with avoiding skid- stops ::)
    Hope Dex's heal up quick

Hi angela glad Dex is ok.

Salt and water old fashioned method works very well to keep wounds clean and helps them dry up. Ive been using it for the last 17 years on my dogs' minor scrapes and wounds.

Murphy took a slice off that pad once by skid stopping into the edge of a concrete flag !!! ::) It was like a flap so he had to have it removed by the vet. During the night he was crying and holding up his paw. :( I rang the vet who said give him an extra pain killer and take him back as the bandage may be too tight. When the vet removed the bandage I expected the whole pad to have been removed he'd made such a fuss. The wound was smaller than my little finger nail. For a big dog my Murphy was such a wus. ;)

Thanks Jen,you are right, good old fashioned salt water...it is dry this morning and I've bathed it again so I think we are out of the woods...
Ah Jacqui, that could be the answer to how he did it.He did have a right hoolie on Wednesday with his pal Loco who is a bit on the rough side ::)....
I take the safestick and some balls when they play together to dilute the enthusiasm for wrestling ( aka the appearance of fighting to the death!!  ) Dexter is the MOST enthusiastic retriever when he's got someone to race to the item with.....( .I totally break the 'restriction of retreives ' rule at those times, justifying it as it's 'playing' not 'training' ::) ) he gets to the ball or safestick first every time( because he's so fast ;D ;D ;D ;D ,boastful, proud Humum!)torments the living day lights with it out of the other dog he's playing with and then comes back to me and drops it at my feet without any cue whatsoever....I know there's material there for me to work with ,I just need to harness the power!
Thanks for all your replies x
